Lipo ("Lipo", "we", "us", or "our") provides a macOS dictation, translation, clipboard, screenshot, and Visual Brief application, together with account, billing, and related services at uselipo.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
What stays on your Mac
Lipo is designed to keep your day-to-day content local by default. The following items are stored on your Mac unless you choose to delete them or enable a feature that sends them for AI processing:
- Dictation history, raw transcripts, cleaned text, and paste history.
- Clipboard history and screenshot history.
- Visual Brief recordings, selected frames, transcripts, and generated briefs.
- Custom dictionary terms, app-mode assignments, shortcuts, permissions state, and app preferences.
We do not upload this local content to our servers for general storage or sync. If you uninstall the app or clear local history, content stored only on your Mac may be lost.
What we process in the cloud
Some Lipo features need cloud AI processing to work. When you use those features with a signed-in account, we send only what is needed to complete that request — not your whole history — and the result comes back to your Mac.
- Audio for transcription, translation, cleanup, or timestamp generation.
- Transcript text and custom dictionary terms used to improve recognition, formatting, translation, or cleanup.
- For Visual Brief, your recording is sent to a trusted third-party partner so it can be analyzed and turned into a ready-to-paste prompt. That content is used only to complete your request.
- Technical metadata such as plan, language, mode, request type, timing, usage counts, and error information.
We do not use your dictation audio, Visual Brief recordings, clipboard contents, or generated prompts to train Lipo-owned AI models. We do not sell this content. Where our partners allow it, we configure them to use your content only to provide the service you asked for.
Account & billing
We use account, billing, and backend providers to operate Lipo. We may process:
- Account information, including email address, account identifiers, authentication state, and device/session metadata.
- Billing information handled by Stripe, including subscription plan, payment status, invoices, renewal and cancellation state, and customer identifiers. We do not store full card numbers.
- Usage information needed to provide entitlements and enforce limits, such as audio seconds, translation word counts, screen-recording job counts, request type, plan, and billing period.
- Support information you send us, including emails, screenshots, logs, or files you choose to share when requesting help.
Optional backup
If you enable dictionary or settings backup, your dictionary words and selected preference settings may be stored in your Lipo account so they can be restored on another Mac. Dictation history, clipboard history, screenshot history, recordings, transcripts, and generated prompts are not included in dictionary or settings backup.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide transcription, translation, cleanup, Visual Brief, account, billing, and support features.
- Authenticate users, prevent fraud, secure the service, and enforce plan, fair-use, and rate limits.
- Debug errors, measure reliability and latency, maintain backend systems, and improve product quality.
- Send service messages, security notices, subscription notices, and support replies.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
Service providers
We share information with service providers only as needed to operate Lipo. These may include authentication, billing, backend hosting, app distribution and updates, customer support, and trusted AI processing partners that help power transcription, translation, cleanup, and Visual Brief. Named infrastructure providers we use today include Clerk, Stripe, Convex, Netlify, and PostHog (website analytics). Our AI processing partners may change as we improve the service.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Lipo or others, to investigate abuse or security issues, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
Retention
Local histories and settings remain on your Mac until you delete them, change retention settings, or uninstall the app. Cloud AI payloads are intended to be transient and are not stored by us as a durable user-content archive. Account, billing, entitlement, usage, security, support, and legal records may be retained as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and comply with law.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted transport for network requests, secure account authentication, server-side provider keys, short-lived realtime keys where supported, and access controls for backend systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and you are responsible for keeping your Mac, operating system account, and Lipo account credentials secure.
Cookies and website data
Our website and account pages may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for sign-in, account management, security, billing, site operation, and basic performance measurement. Third-party services such as Clerk and Stripe may set cookies or similar identifiers when you sign in or manage billing.
We use PostHog to understand how the website is used — for example page views, approximate location by country, and which buttons are clicked. This uses local storage in your browser (not third-party cookies), does not record what you type, and is not used for advertising.
Your choices and rights
You can manage or delete local histories inside the app where controls are provided, cancel your subscription through the billing portal, and contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or export of personal information we hold about your account. Depending on where you live, including California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other regions with privacy laws, you may have additional rights to object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, or lodge a complaint with a regulator.
Some information may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, billing, tax, legal compliance, or legitimate business records.
Children
Lipo is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
International processing
Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have privacy laws that differ from the laws where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice by posting the updated policy on this page, updating the "Last updated" date, and, where appropriate, notifying you by email or in the app.
