Keyboard shortcuts

Every shortcut in Lipo on one page. Almost all of them are customizable — the table shows the default (if any) and where to change it.

Dictation

Shortcut What it does Where to change it
Right ⌥ Option Start and stop dictation (hold to talk, or press twice in Toggle mode). This is the default — Fn/Globe or any custom key works too. Dictation → Activation
Esc Cancel the current recording without pasting. Clicking the × on the pill does the same. Fixed
Return In Toggle mode with "Skip stop, submit with Return" on: stop recording, paste, and submit in one step. Dictation → Activation
Translation hotkey Dictate and paste in your translation target language. No default — set it when you pick "Translate with this hotkey." Translation → Enable translation

Screenshots

None of these have defaults — click a shortcut field in the Screenshot tab and press the combo you want.

Action What it does
Capture Area Select a region and copy it to the clipboard.

Capture Window Copy one window to the clipboard.

Clipboard

Second shortcuts for the five standard editing actions, designed for your right hand. The macOS originals (⌘C, ⌘V, ⌘Z, ⇧⌘Z, ⌘A) keep working. No defaults — set each in the Clipboard tab; examples that work well: ⌘. for Copy, ⌘/ for Paste, ⌘, for Undo.

Not a shortcut, but close

  • Notch hover — with history style set to Notch, moving your pointer to the top center of the screen opens screenshot and clipboard history. No keys involved.
  • Menu bar — the Lipo icon starts Visual Briefs and opens screenshots; the separate clipboard icon (when enabled) opens clipboard history.

Tips for choosing custom keys

  • For dictation, a single side modifier (like Right Option) beats a combo — you'll press it dozens of times a day.
  • macOS reserves some combinations; if Lipo says a shortcut is unavailable, try another.
  • Keep dictation and translation hotkeys physically far apart so you never mix them up mid-thought.
