Wispr Flow vs Lipo: which dictation app fits your language?

Both apps clean up what you say and paste it into any app. The differences are in languages, mixed sentences, translation and where they run.

Pick Wispr Flow if you dictate mostly in English or in one of the seven languages it has tuned to English level (French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai), or if you need dictation on Windows, an iPhone or an Android phone. Pick Lipo, our app, if you dictate in a language Wispr Flow does not name, such as Bangla, Urdu, Tamil or Telugu, if your sentences mix English words into another language, or if you want to speak one language and paste another. Lipo runs only on Mac. Both apps remove filler words, add punctuation, and paste the finished text into any app. Both can also change text you have selected when you say what you want: Wispr Flow calls this Command Mode, and Lipo calls it Ask Lipo.

How we compared them

This page uses what each company publishes about its own app, as of October 2026: Wispr Flow's website, pricing page and help centre, its January 2026 post on supporting 100 languages, and Lipo's own documentation. We have not run a side-by-side accuracy test. The last section shows how to run one with your own voice, which tells you more than this page can.

When is Wispr Flow the better choice?

Wispr Flow is the stronger pick in five situations.

  • You write in English, or in one of its seven tuned languages. Wispr Flow says French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai have been "trained and tuned to match English-level performance". It puts 14 more, including Arabic, Japanese and Korean, in a second group.
  • You need more than a Mac. Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Lipo runs only on Mac.
  • Your employer needs certifications. Wispr Flow advertises SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and ISO 27001. Lipo has not published any.
  • You want meeting notes or text snippets in the same app. Wispr Flow has both, and Lipo has neither.
  • You speak Hinglish. Wispr has been testing a Hinglish voice model since early 2026, according to TechCrunch. Try it with your own speech, and check which script the English words come out in.

When is Lipo the better choice?

Lipo is the stronger pick in four situations.

  • Wispr Flow does not name your language. Bangla, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada and Malayalam are all among Lipo's 50+ languages. None is named in Wispr Flow's two groups; they may be among its "75+ others", but Wispr makes no claim about them.
  • Your sentences mix English into your language. Wispr Flow's help centre says: "Flow detects one language per dictation, not per word." Lipo recognizes both languages and writes the English words in your script, so "client" in a Bangla sentence becomes ক্লায়েন্ট, with the Bangla ending attached. The Bangla and Hindi guides show full examples.
  • You think in one language and write in another. Lipo translates as you dictate: you speak Bangla, and English is pasted. It works between any two of its 50+ languages, and it cleans up your speech before it translates. Wispr Flow's Command Mode can translate text you have already selected, which is a different job.
  • You explain things to AI tools. Lipo can attach a screenshot to what you are saying, and Visual Brief turns a screen recording and your spoken explanation into a prompt for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.

What about privacy?

Both apps send your audio to servers for transcription. Both can also read the text on your screen to spell names: Wispr Flow's Context Awareness is on by default, and Lipo's Context awareness stays off until you turn it on. Wispr Flow advertises SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and ISO 27001, and says your data is never sold. Lipo keeps your dictation history and recordings on your Mac, sends only what each request needs to the companies that process it, and never sells your content or uses it to train AI models. Lipo has not published security certifications, so a team that needs them should choose Wispr Flow. If your audio must never leave your computer, look at superwhisper's local models instead of either app.

Is Lipo a good Wispr Flow alternative?

For people who dictate in a language other than English, often yes: Lipo was built for the languages, mixed sentences and translation that Wispr Flow says least about. For someone who writes only in English, works on Windows or wants dictation on a phone, no. Wispr Flow covers those better.

If you are looking at Wispr Flow alternatives more widely, Apple's dictation is free on every Mac, and superwhisper can keep audio on your computer. The comparison of dictation apps for non-English languages puts seven apps side by side.

How to compare them yourself in ten minutes

Both apps have a free way in: Wispr Flow's free plan and Lipo's 7-day trial. Use the same message in both, so the only thing that changes is the app.

  1. Write down a message you would really send, in your language, with two names and one English word in it.
  2. Dictate it into Wispr Flow at your normal speed, correcting yourself once in the middle.
  3. Dictate the same message into Lipo the same way.
  4. Count the edits each version needs before you would send it.
  5. If you write in English for work, turn on translation in Lipo and dictate the message once more in your language.

The app with fewer edits for your language and your accent is the right one for you, whatever this page says.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lipo better than Wispr Flow?

It depends on your language. For English and the seven languages Wispr Flow has tuned, Wispr Flow is a strong choice, and it runs on more devices. For Bangla, Urdu, Tamil and other languages Wispr Flow does not name, for mixed-language sentences, and for speaking one language to paste another, Lipo is built for the job.

Does Wispr Flow support Bangla?

Wispr Flow says it supports more than 100 languages, but Bangla is not among the 21 languages it names. It may be among the "75+ others". Test it with your own Bangla before you pay. Lipo supports Bangla as a main language.

Does Wispr Flow work with Hinglish?

Wispr has been testing a Hinglish voice model since early 2026, according to TechCrunch. Its help centre says Flow detects one language per dictation. Lipo writes Hinglish in Devanagari, with English words such as मीटिंग written the way Hindi newspapers print them.

Can Wispr Flow translate what I say?

Not as you dictate. Its Command Mode can translate text you have selected. Lipo translates as part of the dictation, between any two of its 50+ languages.

Does Lipo have something like Wispr Flow's Command Mode?

Yes, it is called Ask Lipo. Select some text, double-tap your dictation key, and say what you want, for example "make it shorter" or "translate this to English". Lipo replaces the text you selected. With nothing selected, Ask Lipo writes new text at your cursor, and with Context awareness on, it can read the email you are replying to.

Does Lipo work on Windows or a phone?

No. Lipo runs on Mac, with macOS 15.2 or later. Wispr Flow runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.

Is Wispr Flow free?

It has a free plan with a weekly word limit, and paid plans above it. Lipo has a 7-day free trial with no credit card needed, and paid plans after that.

Which one is more private?

Both process your audio on servers. Wispr Flow advertises SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA and ISO 27001. Lipo keeps your history on your Mac and never sells your content or uses it to train AI models, but it has not published certifications.
