Your Dictionary

Speech-to-text mangles names. Your company, your colleague Rashida, the product you mention ten times a day — a generic transcriber guesses at all of them. Your Dictionary is where you teach Lipo the words that must always come out spelled a certain way: names, brands, products, and people. It lives at the bottom of the Dictation tab.

Two kinds of word lists

• Used in every mode — words Lipo should always spell a certain way, no matter which mode is active. Put your names, company, and products here.
• Mode-only lists — extra words for one mode. The section shows the list for your currently selected mode (for example "Vibe Coding only"), and Lipo uses those words only while that mode is active. This keeps your coding vocabulary from leaking into casual messages, and vice versa.

Adding and removing words

1. Type the word or name into the Add a word or name… field and click Add. Lipo tells you if it's already in your dictionary.
2. Remove a word by clicking the × on its chip.
3. Long lists collapse — click Show more to see everything, and use the search field to find a specific word.

Add words exactly as you want them written: correct capitalization, spacing, and punctuation. "DaVinci Resolve" comes out as "DaVinci Resolve" only if that's how you saved it.

The starting lists

Each mode begins with a curated preset so common names work out of the box — AI and creator tools in Casual, business tools in Formal, developer and AI-model vocabulary in Vibe Coding. These are just starting points: every list is fully editable, and removing a preset word is fine.

Word Library

Click Browse word library to see a curated collection of terms Lipo can recognize — coding terms, tool names, and other words speech-to-text often gets wrong. Click any word to add it to your list, and use the search to jump to what you need.

Backed up with your account

When Back up dictionary & settings is on (Settings → Backup & Sync), your dictionary is saved to your Lipo account and comes back automatically when you switch Macs or reinstall. Only your dictionary words and preferences are backed up — never anything you dictate.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of words belong in the dictionary?

Proper nouns and jargon: people, companies, products, project codenames, technical terms. Ordinary words don't need entries — Lipo already handles those.

Does the dictionary work in every language?

Yes. Dictionary words are blended into transcription and cleanup whatever language you dictate in, which is exactly what keeps names intact when you use Translation.

Should a word go in "every mode" or a mode-only list?

If you'd say it in any context — your name, your company — put it in Used in every mode. If it only comes up in one kind of writing, like a library name you only mention while coding, keep it in that mode's list so it can't distort other writing.
