Snippets

A snippet is text you save once and paste by saying its name. Save your calendar link as "my calendar link", then say "here is my calendar link" while you dictate, and Lipo pastes the link in place of those words. Snippets are part of both plans.

How do I add a snippet?

  1. Open Lipo and click Snippets in the sidebar.
  2. Click Add snippet.
  3. In What you say, type the name you will say, for example "my calendar link". A name can be up to 60 characters.
  4. In What Lipo pastes, type or paste the text, up to 4,000 characters. It can have several lines.
  5. Click Save.

To change a snippet, click the pencil next to it. To remove it, click the trash can. You can save up to 100 snippets.

How do I use a snippet?

Dictate as usual and say the snippet's name where the text belongs. Lipo pastes the saved text in place of the words that name it.

You say Lipo pastes
"Here is my calendar link, pick any time that works." Here is https://cal.com/yourname, pick any time that works.
"Can you ship the samples to my home address?" Can you ship the samples to House 12, Road 5, Dhaka 1207?
"My calendar link" (the name on its own) https://cal.com/yourname

When does Lipo paste a snippet?

Lipo pastes a snippet when you ask for it, not every time you say its name. Lipo checks what you meant:

  • "Here is my calendar link" and "send it to my home address" paste the snippet.
  • "I lost my calendar link", "what was my zoom link again?" and "send me your calendar link" stay as you said them.

Saying only the snippet's name, with nothing else, always pastes it. This also works when Polish text is off, for example in Vibe Coding. With Polish text off, Lipo does not look for snippet names inside longer sentences.

Does a snippet work with translation?

Yes. Ask for the snippet in the language you speak, and Lipo pastes the saved text exactly as you wrote it, without translating it.

What does the AI see?

Only the snippet names travel with your dictation, so the AI can tell where you asked for one. The saved text stays on your Mac. Lipo puts it in after the AI has finished.

Are snippets backed up?

Snippets are stored on your Mac, and they stay when you install a Lipo update. To keep a copy in your Lipo account for a new Mac, turn on Back up snippets on the Snippets tab.

  • When you turn it on, Lipo combines the snippets on this Mac with any already in your account, so none are lost.
  • When you turn it off, Lipo deletes the copy in your account. The snippets on your Mac stay.
