Screenshot in Lipo is built for speed: grab what's on your screen, drop it into a chat or prompt, and keep moving. It works two ways — as capture tools on the floating pill while you dictate, and as standalone shortcuts you can use anytime. Used with dictation, it's one of the fastest ways to show an AI exactly what you mean.

While you're dictating

During dictation, the floating pill gives you two capture tools. Anything you capture is attached to the current dictation, and when you stop, Lipo pastes your text and the images together into the field you're using.

• Screenshot — click the camera icon on the pill, then drag to select an area. A number badge on the button counts how many shots you've attached; you can capture several before you stop talking.
• Highlighter — click the highlighter icon to draw on your screen and mark the parts that matter. While it's on, the screen is locked for clicking, and the pill shows "Click again to unlock the screen." Click the icon again when you're finished; the annotated capture attaches to the same dictation.

Standalone screenshots

When you're not dictating, capture anytime with a shortcut or from the Lipo icon in the menu bar. The Screenshot tab has four actions — click each shortcut field and press the combo you want:

If macOS reserves a combination you try, Lipo tells you — pick another. The first capture also asks for the Screen Recording permission.

Where screenshots show up

Every capture is saved to History on the Screenshot tab. Under How history opens, choose how you browse them on screen:

• Notch (default) — screenshot and clipboard history live in a small bar at the top of your screen. Move your pointer near the top center (or the camera notch on MacBooks that have one) to open it, then drag a screenshot straight into any input field, chat, or prompt.
• Classic Panels — prefer floating windows? Captures open from the Lipo menu bar icon (choose Previous Screenshots) or with the Previous Screenshots shortcut. Choosing Classic Panels also turns on the separate clipboard menu bar icon, since clipboard history no longer lives in the notch.

File format

Choose JPEG or PNG in the Screenshot tab. JPEG makes smaller files and works well when you send screenshots to an AI. PNG keeps every pixel if you need perfect quality.

History and retention

Screenshots stay on your Mac — Lipo never uploads them. In the Screenshot tab you choose how long history is kept: 3 days, 1 week, or 1 month; older items are removed automatically. Two ways to keep or clear things manually:

• Keep in saved screenshots — saved items never get deleted automatically, whatever the retention setting.
• Delete individual shots, or use Delete All Saved for a clean slate.

From history you can also copy a shot again, save it to your computer as a file, or open it in the editor.

Frequently asked questions

How is this better than macOS's built-in screenshots?

Three things: captures can attach directly to a dictation and paste together with your words; Capture Area & Paste puts a shot into your front app in one step; and history with the notch means any recent capture is one drag away — no Desktop full of files.

Can I capture more than one screenshot per dictation?

Yes. Click the camera on the pill as many times as you need; the badge counts your attachments, and they all paste together with your text.

Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?

No. Screenshot history stays on your Mac — Lipo never uploads it. A screenshot leaves your machine only when you paste or share it somewhere yourself.
